The 6 slice loaf |
One thing that’s taking a bit of adjustment to is food shopping.
Everything in the supermarket is in really small packages.
Loaf of bread is 6 slices. packet of cheese is 5 slices unless you buy the super-size which has 8 slices!!
No 24 can box of Coke either...individual cans only.
The trolleys are also tiny....like those baskets you get at pak and save but with wheels.
What this all means is that you have to go shopping multiple times in a week.
Now I hate supermarkets and going there every other day is not my idea of a good time.
The other day while we were there i spotted some bags of ice.
Nothing like ice cubes with your coke....gotta get a bag.
When we get to the check out the girl asks do we want some dry ice for our ice.
Sensing another adventure here, I say, yep, why not.
She hands me a silver coin which has no markings on it and points us in the direction of a vending machine.
I put the coin that isn't a coin in and push the red button.
Out comes a handful of dry ice.
I scoop it up with the supplied scooper and put it into the supplied plastic bag.
Great. Now what the fuck do I do with this?
Apparently this tiny bag of dry ice is supposed to stop my big bag of ice cubes melting on the way home.
Yeah right!
2.5 days worth of cheese |
The funny thing is that right next to the dry ice machine is an ice cube maker.
You can just grab as much ice cubes as you want and it’s free!
I ask Shizuka why the hell we've just paid for a bag of ice when it’s free out of this machine.
"AHHH" she replies "that’s because this ice is not made with drinkable water. It’s for keeping things cold only.”
So this is the ice that we really need to protect our ice!!!
But seeing as our apartment is only a 2 minute drive from the supermarket we decided to risk it with only the dry ice.
We like to live dangerously sometimes.
